Study Group: Classical Weed Biological Control

The IOBC-Global Study Group "Classical Weed Biological Control" is an extension of the venerable International Symposium on Biological Control of Weeds (ISBCW).

Co-Convenors

  • Hariet Hinz (CABI, Switzerland), h.hinz@cabi.org
  • Raghu Sathyamurthy (CSIRO, Australia), Raghu.Sathyamurthy@csiro.au
  • Richard Shaw (CABI, UK)
  • Rob Bouchier (Ag & Agri-Food Canada)
  • Seona Casonato (Lincoln University/Landcare Research, New Zealand)
  • Martin Hill (Centre for Biological Control, South Africa)
  • Guillermo Cabrera Walsh (FuEDEI, Argentina)
  • Bernd Blossey (Cornell University, USA)
  • Paul Pratt (USDA, USA)

Aim

Provide a forum to connect weed biocontrol scientists between the quadrennial ISBCW, facilitate contributions to global discussions on regulations and help to promote weed biocontrol, e.g., by supporting early career scientists, developing country collaborations and providing a mechanism to advocate for its appropriate and sustained use as a vital weed management tool.

Participants of the International Symposium on Biological Control of Weeds 2018 in Engelberg, Switzerland, were keen to explore the option of becoming a Global Study/Working Group of IOBC.

Are you interested in undertaking weed biological control?

"A World Catalogue of Agents and Their Weeds" can be accessed through the following link: https://www.ibiocontrol.org/catalog/index.cfm
Please note, all weed biological control activity is, and needs to be, done in strict compliance with the policies and regulations specific to each country. This enables this applied scientific activity to be undertaken in a responsible manner that considers the risks, costs and benefits of release of classical biological control agents into any country. If you are unsure of this process, please contact the convenors of this Study/Working Group.
